What is a schema?

Our schema is our world view. How we see the world and what we believe about it. For example, if someone mentions sports cars, you have a set of automatic or core beliefs that pop into your head regarding sports cars. These core beliefs are your schema around sports cars, like this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our self-schemas, or our beliefs about ourselves, color our existence and can cause us to be depressed. By changing our self-schema, we can begin to lift ourselves out of depression.
